Pathways to Concept Development for Children who are Deafblind: The Fine Arts (4-part series)
Starting 3/15/2023 at 3:00 PM and ending on 3/15/2023 at 4:00 PM
Event Groups:
• State Support Team 6 - District Events
Description:
Presented by: Lyn Ayer, Ph.D.

This is a four-part series that will consider the importance of using the fine arts
for children who are deafblind, to guide them to understand concepts that they may not have
gathered through incidental learning in their environment. The fine arts present a rich opportunity to
enhance what they know, add dimensions, and even offer new information. Providing this learning
through an enjoyable platform will make it more motivating. It will thus encourage children to more
easily retain the concepts in memory, be able to make necessary connections with what they already
know, and be able to retrieve these memories when they need to expand or explore them further.
With each session, one of the “fine arts” will be highlighted, but others will also be presented as they
naturally overlap with the main theme of each session.
