Three Day Institute
Day 1: 
Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder in Young Children; Sensory Processing: Implications for Behavior and Learning
Part One: To be able to successfully support young children with ASD, it is important to understand the characteristics of autism spectrum disorder. This session will introduce participants to characteristics and differences of young students with ASD and the core skills needed to support their development. Interventions, strategies and supports will also be shared to support underlying characteristics of ASD.
Part Two: This presentation will help participants gain an understanding of sensory processing challenges  and the impact it can have on a young child’s ability to play, learn and participate in daily activities. Participants will be introduced to environmental modifications and other interventions and strategies to support a young child’s sensory challenges.
Day 2: Communication is the foundation to all learning and interactions. This session will introduce participants to communication in young children with ASD. It will also focus on how to develop and implement communication supports including assistive technology for young students with ASD.
Day 3: Social- Emotional Competence Play and Friendship Skills in Young Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder- Being able to develop the ability to interact socially can be one of the most challenging aspects of life for individuals with ASD. This presentation will introduce participants on how to acquire and build social competence skills for young children with ASD, and how to implement interventions that can help develop social competence, play, and friendships.
