OCDBE: Considering Children who are Deafblind and Academically On-Track: Session 2
Starting 11/1/2022 at 3:00 PM and ending on 11/1/2022 at 4:30 PM
Event Groups:
• State Support Team 6 - District Events
Description:
*This is a 2-part series with each session broken down into segments. *

Segment Two consists of a 20-minute recorded segment, followed by 10 minutes of discussion.

Overview: Based on their characteristics, it is often assumed that children who are labeled, “on track” or “proficient communicators” are just that. However, there may still be needs that are not obvious to observers. This second section focuses on communication needs that might still exist. Many children with these characteristics have taught themselves to cope and appear self-sufficient; however, there may be subtle aspects of their communication that need to be tweaked, explained, and/or re-taught. Without this “check,” the attempt to keep them “on track” academically may be hindered.

Outcome: Participants will understand the need to observe and document possible concerns regarding communication, even when the child may appear “proficient.”

Segment Three involves a 10-minute recorded session and 5 minutes preparation for Session 2 (scheduled for November 1, 2022).
