Career Technical Education

State Support Team 6 supports Career-Technical Planning Districts (CTPDs) in the region’s seven counties. These support services result from a joint venture between the Office of Exceptional Children and the Office of Career-Technical Education (The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce) to support CTPDs in serving students with disabilities.

SST6 staff will assist in developing presentations and resources in collaboration with the Office of Exceptional Children and the Office of Career-Technical Education that can be used across all Career Technical Planning Districts. The professional development focuses on improving instructional support to career technical instructors serving diverse learners, particularly students with disabilities. Focus topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Special Education Service Delivery

2025-26 Career-Technical Education Community of Practice

Career Technical Education (CTE) stands at the forefront of preparing students for high-demand, high-wage careers, yet ensuring access and success for all learners remains a persistent challenge. How do we create CTE programs that not only meet industry standards but also provide meaningful pathways for every student, including those with disabilities? How do we stay current with rapidly evolving federal and state initiatives while maintaining focus on evidence-based practices that drive student outcomes?

This Career Technical Education Community of Practice brings together local CTE leaders each semester to address these critical questions through targeted technical assistance and collaborative professional development. Participants will explore evidence-based practices that support all learners with an intentional emphasis on students with disabilities, navigate complex federal and state CTE initiatives, and work collectively to solve implementation challenges. The CoP complements the Statewide CTE Special Education Leaders Network, providing local leaders with opportunities to connect with peers across Ohio while building capacity to deliver inclusive, high-quality CTE programming that prepares every student for post-secondary success.

Building Implementation Capacity for Career Advising Community of Practice - Year 2

Career advising has never been more critical for student success, yet many districts struggle to move from policy to meaningful practice. After a year of foundational learning and initial planning, districts are now ready to tackle the real work of implementation. How do you transform a written plan into daily practices that truly impact student outcomes? How do you ensure your career advising services meet the highest standards while overcoming the inevitable barriers that arise? Most importantly, how do you guarantee that all students, including those with disabilities, receive the individualized support they need to achieve their career goals?

This second year of the Building Implementation Capacity for Career Advising Community of Practice focuses on turning vision into reality with an intentional emphasis on ensuring equitable career advising services for students with disabilities. Participants will complete comprehensive career advising plans, elevate service quality using evidence-based standards, and collaborate to solve implementation challenges that threaten progress. Through peer learning and expert coaching, districts will develop the capacity to deliver career advising that prepares every student for post-secondary success, with particular attention to the unique needs and strengths of students with disabilities.
